Born in Guangzhou, China, Cyrus grew up in Hong Kong. Upon graduation from Diocesan Boys' School ("DBS"), he attended universities in the U.S., receiving his AB and MBA from the University of California at Berkeley, and his PhD from New York University. He has worked in banking and private equity in New York, Tokyo, London, Hong Kong and Beijing.
Since his retirement in 2005, Cyrus travels extensively throughout China, taking a special interest in her economic and social changes at the grass-root level. His current interest concerns the impact of economic development on the environment, its effects on the livelihood of the people, and the preservation of their culture and heritage.
